Fleming Island
South of Orange Park on U.S. Highway 17 lies Fleming Island, which has a rich history which was chronicled in the 1980 novel "Margaret's Story" by the late Eugenia Price. An inland island, Fleming Island's name comes from the George Fleming family who owned the island after receiving a land grant from the Spanish government. Fleming Island offers a multitude of housing choices ranging from apartments to condos to gated communities. Fleming Island Plantation, Eagle Harbor, Harbor Island, Pace Island and Margaret's Walk all offer great amenities and a family atmosphere. Fleming Island is where you'll find Thunderbolt, Paterson and Fleming Island Elementary schools and Fleming Island High. The busy corridor of County Road 220 offers a wide range of quality shopping choices, including Kohl's, Target and The Home Depot.
